THE BAR MITZVAH FILM LAUNCHES ANGEL ROUND
Producer Dr. Joseph McGarry of Goethe’s Faust: A Tragedy Then…A Tragedy Now
Invests in Film about Straddling Two Cultures
COLORADO SPRINGS, February 13, 2018– Dr. Joseph McGarry’s investment in The Bar Mitzvah Movie kicks off Mitzvah Productions’ seed round which, in tandem with a forthcoming Indiegogo campaign, will raise the necessary funds to hire the film’s Director and develop the shooting schedule. While substantial,
McGarry’s angel funds only continue the momentum that has been building behind this unique, local film project.
In only the past few weeks, Mitzvah Productions, brainchild of experienced videographer and Colorado Springs Video founder Mark Tachna, has accomplished much. This includes launching its website, garnering a steadily growing Facebook fanbase, signing on Producer and former Disney executive Bob Garner, releasing more than a dozen preproduction videos and beginning substantive discussions with additional investors—all before even advertising, and that effort commences this week.
“I think all [Mark’s] ideas are really good…. I have the utmost confidence and respect in Mark’s ability to get the project done…. I know he can do that. I think there is a very personable element in there [about] straddling two cultures [that’s very] relevant,” remarks McGarry. That “personable element” is apparent to more than just McGarry.
The script, in particular, has been praised for its “cultural relevance” and “accessibility” as its 80s coming-of-age drama chronicles the journey of 12 year-old Robert as he begins to navigate Judaism in suburban America.
The sudden arrival on the local scene of Mitzvah Productions is commensurate with the economic growth of the area as Colorado Springs and, indeed, the State of Colorado, broadens and expands its growing list of industries. Colorado is now home to approximately 20 film festivals, while increasing numbers of film professionals flock to the region, many from film capitals in Southern California and New York. “Our picturesque state increasingly stars as the location for both narrative features and documentary films. Production is a growing industry in Colorado…,” according to Colleen Smith of Colorado Expression.
Many following The Bar Mitzvah are excited about the region’s film footprint growing and look forward to the film’s eventual debut at Kimball’s Peak Three Theatre on Pike’s Peak Avenue. “Growing our nascent film industry has been a long held dream of mine,” says Mark Tachna, and I am thrilled to see so many coming out to support The Bar Mitzvah and what it represents for both cross-cultural understanding as well as for the arts and the economy of the Pike’s Peak Region.”
